Connecticut State Parks Journeys: Indian Well

I’m not a superstitious person, but for some reason I held onto myths and legends I’d heard about Indian Well State Park and neglected to visit the state park that is closest to my home. I know someone who was seriously injured swimming in the river at Indian Well and have heard other stories of death and injuries. My momma said never to go there!

Seems funny to me now because I know many more people who have hiked the state park and been fine compared to people who have been hurt. Statistics don’t lie. 🙂

I quite enjoyed my first venture into Indian Well and it won’t be my last. I’m going back to swim as soon as I can, but not in the river, in this waterfall.

Looks inviting doesn’t it!? The water was surprisingly clear and gorgeous. Didn’t feel like Connecticut!
We hiked 1.78 miles, there and back. Parked at the Tahmore Place trail head. The one jutting path towards the top there is the lookout view.
This is near the main entrance to the park. If you are looking for an easier and faster way to get to the waterfall you can park closer by.

Looking forward to returning on a warmer day! This was my 27th Connecticut State Park wandering; many more to go but returning here is a must for me. We’ve had a bit of a cooler start to August. I love autumn but I’m not ready to say goodbye to summer just yet.
