Just Lean Into Winter

I’m there, the wanting of spring and longing to smell the flowers is strong within me. I write about this every year (see 2023’s here, 2022’s here and 2021’s here) and at this point I feel as though it is necessary for my sanity to write out how I’m feeling and how I’m dealing with it. Here is how I’m learning to just lean into winter.

Self-care

As with my older blog posts I’ve linked above, self-care this time of year has to be forefront on my mind. Lighting candles, reading under a chunky blanket, sitting by the roaring fireplace, taking a bath and having a coffee at a local coffee shop are just some of those self indulgent rest times I need. As the daylight ever so slowly gets longer I remind myself this time of year is for slowing down.

Animals

My two puppies have become my emotional support animals. They follow me around the house, are constantly getting in my face to show some love and are great at cuddles. I love other animals too and have found spending time with them helps my mental health as well. Recently in Vermont I hung out with two horses and chickens. A friend just bought me a window bird feeder to put up so I can bird watch. Animals remind us about the simplicity of the universe and help me realize I don’t have to take life too seriously.

Home Improvements

This is as simple as buying some new throw pillows and a happy mug! I recently scoured World Market for some cheerful items and love the joy they bring in my home.

my formal living room

I like doing small home projects and have neglected that side of my creativity lately. A new puppy in 2023 derailed some ideas I had, but I think now is the time. I want to paint my family room, get new furniture in there and refresh the space. Can’t wait to get started!

Getting Cozy

You all know I’m passionate about fashion, but sometimes I have to learn to lean into winter and throw all style out the window. I’m not a huge fan of athlesiure clothing being worn outside of my physical activity but this time of year I just don’t care. Let the casual and cozy clothes reign supreme. This below is me today, I’m at a level ten in comfort :)

The other things I’m focusing on revolve around travel plans for the next six months. We have some epic trips planned for April, May and July. I don’t like to wish away any amount of time, but I do feel it is necessary to spend time planning itineraries for upcoming trips, so why not do it when I’m in a blah mood!

I’m all for a bit more snow, but the reality is we will likely just have more rain here in Connecticut. Boo! I’d love to get in more skiing so we shall see. Focus on what we can control, right?! How do you handle winter blues?
