Five Autumn Moments 2023

Welcome to my Five Autumn Moments for this year! I started this back in 2021 and enjoy looking back on my five top moments from the season. Reflection and gratefulness this time of year is always a good idea. I’m thankful for the time I make to sit and be in nature and the fact that I have the health and ability to do such a thing. Life is precious.

I usually stick with my favorite moments in Connecticut, but this year I have one from my wanderings to Vermont. Without further ado, here are my favorite five autumn moments for 2023.

1. Stowe, VT

No surprise to anyone who read my blog post on Stowe, click here for that, but the side of the road Highland cows at Trapp Family Lodge take the cake this year as my favorite moment this fall.

2. Florence Griswold Museum, Old Lyme, CT

This year was the third time I’ve visited the Florence Griswold Museum in October to see the fairy houses and the first year it’s made it onto my list of favorite autumn moments. I was fully inspired when I saw the artistry below created by an elementary school.

3. Great Hollow Lake, Monroe, CT

Being local to Monroe is likely why Great Hollow Lake always ends up on my list in autumn; the variety of viewpoints to see the changing trees always fills me enriched with nature’s beauty.

4. Sticks and Stones Farm, Newtown, CT

A local favorite place to hike for me, Sticks and Stones is a private place but open to the public for hiking. I recommend hiking to the top to visit the fairy gazebo. For some reason fairies seem to be a theme with me this year! I’ll share here too, my pumpkin carving from this autumn, a fairy house.

5. Orchard Hill Nature Preserve, Newtown, CT

Orchard Hill is another repeat location for my favorite autumn moments. This year, my moment came when I glanced down at my feet. The red shoelaces of my hiking boots against the scattered red leaves caught me in an autumn trance. This fall lacked in robust leaf colors all over New England, but in this moment I saw a classic autumn adventure, one I was longing for.

Funny enough, this has been one of my continuing trending style posts on my Momma Wanderer LTK style page! (click here for that)

Even though autumn is not over yet, I tend to stay indoors more at the end of November and December as we are all busy for the holiday season (well, unless it snows, then I’ll be out there!). I am planning a small hike today for National Take a Hike day (11/17 every year) and will be sharing that on my Instagram page if you’d like to follow along!

What autumn moments have left you inspired this year?
