How Wide Leg Pants Work For All Sizes

I recently purchased a pair of blue wide leg corduroy pants from Nordstrom and a cuffed wide leg denim from Bloomingdale’s and have been wearing both pairs a ton lately (see links below). My wide leg pants blog post from last winter still stands for autumn styles. Along with that comes a newer, deeper love of wide leg pants because they truly work for many people! Here is how wide leg pants work for all sizes.

Elongation and balance

As someone who is only 5’3, I like how wide leg pants make my legs look longer! The pant draws attention to the legs and therefore create a balanced silhouette. This happens because your balance is distributed more evenly. Think of someone wearing tight leggings, all the balance is on the top half of them.

The total look is more balanced for another reason too; with wide leg pants there is more movement of the fabric, drawing the eye downward.

Go for a higher waist

If you are looking for that elongation and balance in your look, a higher waist helps. Your waist is more defined, especially if you wear a cropped or tucked in top. Enhance those curves and create a Marilyn Monroe hourglass figure!

Add layers

Wide leg pants pair well with layered looks. Add dimension with a structured jacket, like a blazer or cropped faux leather coat or bomber jacket. I have a tan colored blazer I would put on over the outfits above if it was a cooler day. I also just purchased a barn coat (linked here, I have the green one) I’ll be wearing as a layer and cardigans work well too.
