Adding Red

I decided at the end of 2023, I wanted to concentrate on a color for my new year. Sounds silly, but I liked the idea of consistency and simplicity with regards to my style, my home decor and my life overall. Sticking with one color, at least for the winter months, seemed like a good idea to me. Last year I went with black without really realizing how it would change me (see about that here). Now, what color this year? I decided on adding red to my life.

At first I thought of blue or green, the colors that I think look best on me and are already a staple in my wardrobe and home. But then that wouldn’t be anything out of the norm for me and I’m looking for a bit of change here. This year I wanted to jump out of the box and did some color research. Red was the clear winner.

The color red stands out. It elicits confidence and emotion. Here are some online articles that swayed my decision: Forbes, Very Well Mind, The BBC, and Scientific American.

Maybe because I just turned 46 and am in peri-menopause, but all this sounded great to me. Let’s do an experiment with red this year and see what happens.

Home Decor

As you can see from the picture above, for home decor, I started with my front porch. Easy assignment because Valentine’s Day is coming and incorporating red into decor is normal for me this time of year. The creative juices will be flowing when I work to add red into my decor after Valentine’s Day :)

Style

I bought a red sweater, red flats and a small Longchamp red tote to incorporate into my fashion for this winter. I already have my favorite red lipstick and pearl headband I love to wear this time of year anyway.

While traveling to San Francisco I wore lots of pops of red.

Instagram Feed

If you take a look at my feed from 2024 so far, you will see my consistency with adding red to my grid. That is on purpose because of this desire to create cohesiveness to my life, in reality and online. Maybe it won’t make a difference or maybe I’ll get half way through the year and decide I’m sick of red, but maybe I’ll enjoy the harmonious feel it brings my life. Let’s see!
