As mentioned in my newsletter, our last road trip of the summer was a trip to the Catskills in New York. We rented an Airbnb, made one reservation ahead of time (horseback riding), threw the three kids and two dogs in the car and made the drive in about three hours. Here is how we spent five nights in the Catskills.

Before getting to the house, we stopped at a local grocery store, in Margaretville, NY. I don’t love eating out every meal so staying at a house and making a few of our own meals is ideal. The house we crashed at was in Andes, up on a hill, with its own pond. It was stunning! The pond was about an eight minute hike uphill from the house, great for getting the dogs exhausted.

It is well worth it to have space to hike, swim, fish and be at one with nature :)
The first day was spent exploring the property. The second day, our first full day, we visited Cooperstown, NY and The Baseball Hall of Fame. A life bucket list item for me! I was awed by Cooperstown; I had no idea how gorgeous the area is and how stunning Otsego Lake is. In the future I would certainly stay right there (Andes was about an hour away). After walking around the Hall of Fame (about two hours there), we walked around the downtown area and had a late lunch.

Day three we went out for breakfast in Andes and then drove up to Mine Kill State Park in North Blenheim to hike and see the waterfall. It was a good hike for kids and dogs!

Day four we explored downtown Andes. A quaint town with good restaurants, shops and a cider brewery (where we ended the day). The Andes Rail Trail is a nice hike/walk, with pretty views and a small waterfall.

In the afternoon we took an hour drive to Mountain Brook Farm in Windham to do horse back riding for the first time! It was everything I wanted it to be and cannot wait to get back on a horse and do a trail walk.

Day five, our last day, we hiked up to the pond at the house for one last time and headed home, exhausted but recharged to start the school year.

It was a relaxing trip and I would take this road trip again any day, highly recommend!
